UPDATE: Auburn man ID’d as victim in fatal Throop crash

New York State Police have identified the man killed in a one-car crash Tuesday in the town of Throop as 57-year-old Auburn resident Michael F. Murray.

They say an autopsy is scheduled to determine an official cause of death, but initial reports indicate that he was in cardiac arrest after the crash occurred.

Turnpike Rd. was closed for a period of hours as crews worked at the scene on Tuesday. NYSEG was called, as well, to replace the utility pole, which was snapped from the collision.

Original Report

Emergency personnel were called to the scene of a one-vehicle accident shortly before 10:30 am on Tuesday, according to first responders.

They say a truck collided with a telephone pole in the Town of Throop in the area of Turnpike Rd., and North Division Street Rd.

Aurelius Heavy Rescue was called to the scene, and early-reports indicate that one occupant was unconscious inside the vehicle when first responders arrived.

It’s unclear if that occupant was the driver or a passenger.

First responders say that Throop Fire Department and Aurelius Rescue arrived on-scene, and found one patient — who was unconscious and not breathing.

CPR was immediately administered on the patient. AMR Ambulance was called to the scene and the patient was transported to Auburn Community Hospital.

Mercy Flight had been called to the scene, but was cancelled.

Other reports indicate that traffic was snarled in the area of the accident, as crews arrived on-scene. Those traveling through Cayuga County should avoid the area for the time being.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
