A local transgender woman is seeking Senator Pam Helming’s seat, per local reports.
Shauna O’Toole, who is the director fo the “We Exist Coalition of the Finger Lakes” is hoping to make an impact on a number of levels – as she enters the race for the 54th Senate District in the 2018 race.
Her campaign was launched on Monday at the Geneva Free Library.
According to reporting by Finger Lakes Daily News, the 59-year-old is a former Kodak scientist and Sodus High School teacher, who transitioned in 2008 from male to female.
A number of trans-candidates sought office in this past year’s election cycle. One was even elected to the Virginia State Legislature.
O’Toole first ran for office in 2015 – when she ran for the 55th Senate District, occupied by Sen. Rich Funke.
