For many years the Waterloo Varsity Club hosted a boys basketball Tip-Off Tournament. That annual event had been suspended prior to the last season and is now re-instituted as a fundraiser for the Waterloo Athletic Hall of Fame.
This year’s event, scheduled for the first weekend in December, features seven of eight schools that have either a coach or an administrator that is a former Waterloo Varsity athlete. Shaun O’Connor, Class of 1985 and Superintendent of Weedsport Central. Weedsport will play host Waterloo and Coach Kevin Dinan, Class of 2004 Friday Night at 7:30 pm. In Friday’s opener Lyons and Coach Zac Young, Class of 1998, will square off against the Geneva High Panthers. The consolation and championship will be Saturday at 4:30 and 6 pm. In addition on Saturday, Class of 1992 Hall of Fame Inductee Coach Jeff Ike and the Jamesville-Dewitt Rams will play Newark High School in a 7:30 pm Saturday night final game. Earlier on Saturday Mynderse Academy, coached by former Waterloo Varsity Coach and teacher Kevin Korzeniewski, wiil play Marcus Whitman at 2 pm. Whitman will be represented by Superintendent and former Waterloo High School Jerry Clingerman.
All four of Saturday’s varsity games will be streamed live on FingerLakes1.com as the premiere of FL1 Sports 2017-18 live webcast schedule.
