The city didn’t exactly toss their updated trash hauler regulations in the waste can, but they did make some significant modifications, based in part on input from disposal companies.
The city’s revised hauler code, which included limited pickup days and higher fees, drew lots of criticism from trash disposal companies working in Geneva.
Some raised their rates in response, and called out city officials who played a role in the revisions, which were done in an effort to reduce the perception that “every day is trash day” in the city.
City Council listened to their concerns, hosting a meeting with haulers in September to hear their beefs and come up with some compromises.
At City Council’s meeting earlier this month, those talks turned into action. City Council on Nov. 1 approved amending its solid waste code by a nearly unanimous vote, with only Mayor Ron Alcock dissenting.
