Michael Calarco wins big in Wayne DA race

Michael Calarco said during the campaign that experience was the difference between he and his opponent, David Fulvio, in the race for Wayne County district attorney.

On Tuesday, the voters agreed.

Calarco, running on the Democratic and Conservative lines, handily defeated Fulvio, a Republican. Calarco finished with 9,574 votes in unofficial results posted on the county website just before 1 a.m. this morning. Fulvio tallied 7,550 votes.

Calarco will succeed longtime DA Rick Healy, who was elected a judge last November.

Calarco, 63, of Newark, said he was “humbled” by the results in a county where Republicans outnumber Democrats by a wide margin.

He said it’s “a credit to the people of Wayne County for doing the right thing. … I want to thank everybody from Wayne County for their support.”
