Two sentenced after CVS theft, police chase between Geneva and Waterloo

A pair of downstate residents were sentenced by Seneca County Judge Dennis Bender after stealing nearly $2,000 of merchandise from the Penn Yan CVS in June.

The theft, which resulted in a subsequent pursuit that ended in Seneca County resulted in a prison sentence, as well as a county jail sentence, according to reporting by FLDN.

Bender sentenced Ruben Rivera, 31, of Bronx to 1.5 to 3 years in prison. He pleaded guilty to criminal possession of stolen property. Meanwhile, Arturo Diaz, 27, of New York City was sentenced to 10 months in County Jail. He pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a forged instrument and driving while ability impaired by drugs.

Police say when they arrived at the Lake St. business, both suspects had fled the scene. Witnesses though, were able to identify them during the getaway, which resulted in a pursuit starting in Geneva.

That is where police say the vehicle was observed, and eventually, the pair were taken into custody by State Police in Waterloo.
