Geneva Pizza Hut shuts down unexpectedly, departs city

Pizza Hut customers were greeted with a surprising message at the door of the Routes 5&20 business a couple of weeks ago.

The restaurant, built in 1976, was closed.

The nearly 2,100- square-foot building has been stripped of its sign, and workers have been busy cleaning out the property.

The building, as well as a former Pizza Hut in Hamilton, Madison County, are now on the auction block; an online auction is set for Nov. 15. AMC Auction, the outfit accepting bids, said there is no reserve price — the minimum dollar amount to be accepted by the owners — established for the former restaurant.

The property is owned by a company called Spirit Master Funding of Scottsdale, Ariz., according to tax records provided by the Ontario County Real Property Tax Office. A call to Spirit Master Funding was not returned as of Thursday afternoon.

Spirit Master Funding did not operate the restaurant, though. The most recent operator was GC Pizza Hut.
