Like last year, City Council didn’t need all of its scheduled work sessions to adopt a 2018 budget.
City Council unanimously approved the spending plan last week, adopting a nearly $26.41 million budget in 2018, a 4.8 percent increase over the current budget. The tax levy is approximately $7.41 million and stays under the state tax cap, which for 2018, is $7.47 million.
The board had set Oct. 25 for adoption, but, like last year, was able to come to agreement ahead of schedule at its work session last Wednesday, Oct. 18. By law, cities must adopt their 2018 budgets by Dec. 1.
Additionally, the tax rate remains the same as 2017, at $17.84. The tax bill for a home assessed at $100,000 would be $1,783. Individual tax bills will vary, based on individual assessments.
Water and sewer rates are higher. The minimum quarterly bill will rise from $78.29 to $82.61.
