Attention: Women interested in volunteering to help build houses.
Habitat for Humanity of Ontario County wants you.
The Canandaigua-based organization has begun a new program called Women Build. It aims to recruit, educate and guide women to build and advocate for simple, decent and affordable homes.
Women from Ontario County are invited to participate in a series of building events at the site of a new Habitat house under construction at 3 Park St. in Clifton Springs. The first Women Build event will be 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Nov. 4. Women who show up do not need any construction skills or experience.
“The only qualification is a desire to learn the skills necessary for typical home building and renovation projects,” said Jacklyn Cotter, Habitat volunteer coordinator. “Volunteers work under the guidance of a construction professional and with other volunteers and future Habitat homeowners. On-site training, instruction, tools and support are provided.”
