Union Springs, Springport boil water notice still in effect

The Cayuga County Health Department said Monday a boil water notice for residents in Union Springs and those who receive water from the town of Springport Water District 1 remains in effect.

Water samples will be collected Monday and Tuesday to confirm there is no contamination in the distribution system. If there is none Tuesday, the health department hopes to lift the boil water notice as early as Wednesday, Oct. 18.

In the meantime, residents should continue to bring their water to a rolling boil, boil for one minute and cool before using. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food, until further notice, according to the department.
