Auburn, Ithaca rank among best places for young families in Upstate

The website NerdWallet ranked 75 places that offer the best combination of affordability, quality schools, future growth and prosperity — as well as family-friendliness in an analysis, which ranked the top-places in Upstate New York for young families.

Locally, very few communities made the list — but that doesn’t mean the Finger Lakes wasn’t represented at all.

Rochester and Syracuse made the list — but even more locally — Auburn and Ithaca represented the 41st and 37th spots respectively.

Auburn’s population, which sits at 27,264, and has a SchoolDigger score of 31.23. The median home value in Auburn is $96,000, which falls in line with the median family income of $52,062.

Ithaca has a population of 30,565, with a SchoolDigger score of 64.27. The average home costs $220,400, which makes it a pricier endeavor in the region — but the median family income is higher — with that figure sitting at $69,408.
