It’s called Main Street for a reason. It’s usually the most visible, most traveled and most utilized street in a community.
Revitalizing Waterloo’s Main Street has been the focus of the Village Board for years. Those efforts have paid off in the eyes of the American Planning Association, which has selected the village’s main thoroughfare as one of five streets in the entire country to be designated a “great street” under it’s Great Places in America program.
The village will receive the plaque commemorating its selection in ceremonies planned for noon Oct. 14 in LaFayette Park. Plans are being finalized, with an APA representative coming to the village for the presentation. State and local elected officials, along with the public, are invited.
“We’re very happy to get this award,” Mayor Ted Young said. “It a great start to showcasing the hard work the village has put into Main Street and that it’s coming to fruition. There’s more to do, but it’s nice to be recognized by experts for what ls being done.
