Cayuga County’s August unemployment rate was above the prior-year level, the third straight month for such an increase.
The county’s 4.8-percent jobless rate was up from 4.7 percent reported for August 2016, the state Department of Labor reported Tuesday. The county rate was lower than the New York state rate (4.9 percent) but above the national rate (4.5 percent). Those figures were not adjusted for typical seasonal changes.
The number of unemployed Cayuga County residents remained flat at 1,800, but the number of people employed dropped by 900 to 34,800.
