SUV turns into path of motorcycle in Ovid; motorcyclist airlifted, SUV driver charged with DWAI

The Seneca County Sheriff’s Office reports that on September 18th at 9:51 am, Sheriff’s Deputies were called to North Main street in the Village of Ovid for a personal injury vehicle crash involving an SUV that struck a motorcycle.

Following further investigation at the scene, Sheriff’s Deputies determined that Sharon M. Shaw, 67 of Ovid was driving southbound in her SUV, when she turned into path of a northbound motorcycle, striking the motorcycle.

The operator of the bike was identified as 55-year-old Carol A. Artico, of Quebec, Canada was ejected from the motorcycle, landing on the pavement.

She was treated at the scene by South Seneca Ambulance and then transported by LifeNet air ambulance to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse , where she is being trerated for a pelvis and shoulder injuriry.

Deputies report that they Charged Shaw with Driving While Ability Impaired by drugs as well as failure to keep right. Deputies also say that they were assisted at the scene by Ovid, Lodi and Interlaken Fire.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Shaw is to appear in the Town of Ovid Court on the 10th of October at 10:00 am to answer the charges.
