The makeover of Seneca County government may continue Tuesday.
The county Board of Supervisors will consider a resolution to abolish two positions in the Code Enforcement Department and create a new job: Commissioner of Public Works. If approved, that person would head up a proposed Public Works Division that would oversee the county highway department; water and sewer districts; facilities; code enforcement; weights and measures; and recycling and solid-waste operations.
The new position and department are the idea of County Manager John Sheppard. They are modeled after Ontario County, where Sheppard was a member of the Board of Supervisors.
If approved, Sheppard will seek candidates who are licensed professional engineers. The salary range is $73,929 to $97,191.
The board’s Public Works Committee previously approved the motion, sending it to the full board for a final vote.
