Three residents evacuate as fire destroys Groton house

Three Groton residents were able to escape from a house that was destroyed by a fire during a rainy Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters received a report of a fire at 470 Pleasant Valley Road around 3 p.m., according to the Tompkins County Emergency Dispatch Center. They arrived at the scene at 3:08 p.m.

The fire had spread throughout the house before firefighters had arrived, said Lee Shurtleff, director of Tompkins County Emergency Response. All three residents were able to leave the house, and no injuries from residents or firefighters were reported.
