It’s going to be a rollercoaster ride of a weekend — as the weather shifts from one extreme to the next.
Friday, temperatures will struggle to move through the 60s — with most of the region remaining cooler-than-typical for Labor Day Weekend. While some of the sunshine seen this morning will begin getting filtered by the remains of Tropical Storm Harvey — it will be minimal compared to the way the region will feel it on Sunday.
Low temperatures will struggle to stay in the 40s with some locations even seeing upper-30s.
FLX Weather Meteorologist Drew Montreuil broke down the Saturday and Sunday forecast like this:
“As Harvey heads into the Mid-Atlantic region Saturday, some of the energy associated with the low pressure system will jump to the east coast and begin to reorganize.
During this process, the chances for rain in the Finger Lakes will gradually increase. The first showers should start to show up in the Finger Lakes during the early afternoon hours.
Scattered showers will be possible for a few hours before a slight lull in the activity during the evening.
More widespread, steadier rain should then move in Saturday night before it begins to taper off around sunrise Sunday morning.
A general half-inch to inch of rain is likely for much of the Finger Lakes.
However, there may also be a narrow band, most likely over the eastern Finger Lakes, where up to two inches of rain falls.
Precipitation throughout August was well below normal, so not only is this rain not expected to cause any problems, but it will actually be beneficial to the region.
Showers will linger through Sunday morning, but should gradually taper off by the afternoon hours.”
Labor Day will be warmer than what we’ve seen. It might even feel like summer that day — as temperatures rise into the low-80s. Don’t get used to it, though, because the long-term forecast shows much of what the region has been used to — cooler- and wetter-than-usual conditions.
