Deputies say three horses were killed after an accident in Starkey on State Route 14 on Monday.
The incident took place around 2 am, when the horses were struck by a sport utility vehicle on Route 14. Deputies say a Jeep Grand Cherokee, traveling north, operated by Christopher Chalfin, 37, of Pennsylvania did not see the horses.
The horses were black in color, according to deputies. The horses had gotten out from their pasture, which was fenced in, and were killed instantly, according to deputies.
The horses had appeared in several festivals and parades. All three were local favorites, especially among children.
