Syracuse man jailed for having sexual contact with 12-year-old in Cayuga County

A Syracuse man was sentenced to six months in jail and five years of probation for sending sexually explicit messages to a 12-year-old girl in Cayuga County.

Joshua E. Mauro, of 209 Lawrence Ave. Apt. 2, pleaded guilty to felony first-degree disseminating indecent material to minors in May. At the time, he told the court that he engaged in "inappropriate contact" with the girl in November 2016.

Cayuga County District Attorney Jon Budelmann said Mauro messaged the victim — a 12-year-old girl from the town of Locke — and invited her to partake in sexual acts. He also said Mauro sent the child sexually graphic images and used role playing, referring to himself as "Daddy."

"It's pretty horrendous," Budelmann said Thursday in court. "Child pornography feeds an appetite and that appetite is clearly here."
