Cayuga Centers teen denies assaulting Auburn police officer

A 16-year-old resident of Cayuga Centers pleaded not guilty Thursday to assaulting an Auburn police officer.

Jacob Mackey, of 101 Hamilton Ave., was arrested July 31 and charged with second-degree assault — a class D felony — and criminal obstruction of breathing and resisting arrest, both misdemeanors. He was also charged with disorderly conduct, a violation.

According to the Auburn Police Department, Mackey became aggressive with an officer after he was approached on Osborne Street that night. The teen had allegedly been blocking traffic at around 10:30 p.m. when he grabbed the officer around his neck.
