Mercy Flight transported a woman to Strong Memorial Hospital after a Monday morning crash, according to first responders.
The accident took place in Macedon around 6:45 am on State Route 31.
Police say that a 30-year-old woman was traveling west on Route 31, crossed into the eastbound lane, and crashed head-on into a tractor-trailer.
There was a 7-month-old in the backseat of the vehicle, who was treated at the scene. That child, according to police, was not injured.
Route 31 was closed for hours as crews worked to clear, and investigate the accident.
Trooper Mark O’Donnell told 13WHAM News that if the two occupants were not wearing safety belts and were not properly secured — the accident would have been a double-fatal.
“That car seat did its job, did what it was designed to do. And that’s why that 7-month-old is uninjured and we’re very thankful for that,” he added.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was not injured.
