Eclipse Day is here.
People have been planning their entire schedule’s around it — and while those in the Finger Lakes won’t see a complete eclipse — there will still be something interesting to see with a significant portion of the sun getting covered up in the afternoon.
The next total solar eclipse won’t come until April 8th, 2024, which makes today even more unique.
In 2024, the Finger Lakes will see a 100 percent eclipse, which will begin around 2:07 pm — lasting more than 2 hours and 26 minutes. The full-eclipse will last two minutes, and at that point take place around 3:21 pm.
According to FLX Weather Meteorologist Drew Montrueil there will be ‘ample’ opportunity to watch this year’s eclipse. That said, some of the afternoon clouds could briefly challenge that viewing.
The eclipse will briefly hold down temperatures — as a portion of the sun gets blocked by the moon. Monday’s high will be in the mid-80s, according to Montreuil, who notes that the eclipse will knock down temperatures until they begin rising again around 4 pm.

Tuesday will be steamy, with the threat of some severe weather, according to forecasters.
The National Weather Service notes that an accompanying low pressure system, which will be moving to the region’s north — will set off some afternoon thunderstorms. Those storms could produce damaging winds, hail, and even the very minimal threat for tornadoes.
Frequently lightning, and heavy rains are the primary, and more-concerning threat for those living in the Finger Lakes.
