Lyons man charged with DWI, sent to Strong after rollover crash; others inside vehicle uninjured

A 26-year-old Lyons man was arrested for driving while intoxicated and speeding following a one-car rollover accident in Phelps, according to deputies.

The crash took place on Gifford Rd. on August 18th around 8:29 pm. Deputies say that Michael Thomas McKeever, 26, of Lyons was operating a 2005 Ford Escape when it appeared to be traveling west at a high rate of speed. The vehicle went off the road, according to deputies, and flipped multiple times.

There were four occupants inside the vehicle, and all of them – with exception to the driver — were uninjured.

Deputies say the driver of the vehicle, identified as McKeever, was transported to Strong Memorial Hospital by Phelps Ambulance with minor injuries. He was later placed into custody for driving while intoxicated and speed not reasonable.

He was issued citations and will answer the charges at a later date, according to deputies.

The Phelps Fire Department also assisted at the scene.
