Some extra construction work has put the Auburn Police Department’s command center repair project over its original budget and drawn out its timeline.
During Thursday’s Auburn City Council meeting, council members approved a change order for the project in the amount of $53,274. The extra money will go toward costs associated with additional tiling in the command center and new exterior doors, Police Chief Shawn Butler said.
The department was also awarded a $20,000 legislative grant through the New York State Department of Criminal Justice Services for technology improvements and upgrades. Butler said the department plans to use the money to install additional security cameras, outfit an interview room with recording equipment and upgrade some of the department’s computers.
