A plant in Union Springs that manufactures high-end jewelry and home decor for the brand Jay Strongwater is scheduled to close at the end of the year after the company was sold, according to the New York State Department of Labor.
The plant, located at 107 Salem St., Union Springs, is scheduled to close by Dec. 31 and all 29 of the plant's employees will be affected, the labor department reported in a notice posted at its Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification website. The New York City-based brand is moving all production to Rhode Island.
According to a Jay Strongwater blog post, the metal for all of the company's products is poured in Rhode Island and the workers in the Union Springs studio put the finishing touches on the designs — adding jewels, glitter and paint.
