Deputies say an Arizona man was arrested in Covert after he was found to have an unregistered .40 cal semi-automatic handgun, and was under the influence of alcohol following a motor vehicle accident and dispute.

Authorities were called to Lower Covert Rd. for the report of a dispute following a property damage accident, where Anthony P. DeFranco, 35, of Tempe, Arizona struck a signpost and some shrubbery.

Deputies discovered DeFranco to be in possession of an unregistered .40 cal semi-automatic handgun during the investigation, and also found him to have been operating his vehicle with a blood-alcohol content of .08 percent or more.

He was charged with driving while intoxicated, operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of .08 percent or greater, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

All of the charges are misdemeanors, according to investigators.

He was arraigned in Romulus Town Court and remanded to the Seneca County Correctional Facility in lieu of $1,000 cash bail.
