UPDATE: Family displaced, dog dies after Niles housefire

There weren’t any injuries reported, but crews were busy at an early morning fire in the Town of Niles.

The structure fire was initially reported at 4582 Route 38A, which according to reporting by the Auburn Citizen took the life of a family dog. The family living on the property was also displaced, per Citizen reporting.

The call came in around 12:50 am, and crews had cleared the scene by 8:30 am, which meant more than 7 hours at the scene for those first responders.

The fire spotted back up multiple times, as crews from several districts responded. Altogether more than 10 departments were called to the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, according to officials.

West Niles, New Hope, Aurelius, Fleming, Jordan, Locke, Moravia, Owasco, Southen Cayuga, Sennett and Sempronius fire departments responded to the fire.
