Geneva woman faces felony charge after illegally using EBT card

Deputies arrested a 23-year-old Geneva resident on welfare fraud charges following an investigation into the illegal usage of an electronic benefits transfer card.

Elizabeth A. Stedge, 23, of Geneva used the EBT card of another person who had been incarcerated in the jail, in order to purchase items with food stamps, which she wasn’t entitled, according to deputies.

Investigators added that the fraudulent purchases were made with the intent to commit welfare fraud. She was subsequently charged with first-degree falsifying business records – a Class E felony.

The charges will be answered in Hopewell Town Court at a later date.
