The United Way of Tompkins County has announced the recipients of its 2017 Spring Grant Awards, which total more than $900,000 in local investments.
The grants awarded by the UWTC board of directors are to support the health, education and financial stability of people throughout the county and beyond. Grants were made through the Community Care Fund, the Focus on Community Understanding and Service (FOCUS) Fund from the Dryden Middle School, and the Hunger and Food Security Fund.
The funds will help people meet immediate basic needs while creating lasting change by strengthening the building blocks for a good life, the United Way said in a release. The Community Care Fund awards of $877,052 support 90 programs. Hunger and Food Security Fund awards totaling $36,400 were invested in nine programs projected to assist 18,648 local residents gain access to an adequate supply of nutritious food.
