Cayuga Community College now has two residential houses within its Auburn campus.
Cayuga County Community College Foundation Inc., a nonprofit that supports the college through fundraising, recently bought a property at 229 Franklin St. and transferred it to Cayuga County to hold in trust for the college.
Guy Cosentino, executive director of the foundation, said the family that had owned the small house asked college officials if they were interested in buying the property. It is one of three houses adjacent to each other on Franklin Street that back up to the college campus. The county has owned 227 Franklin St. on behalf of the college since 2006, while 231 Franklin St. remains privately owned.
Because the college can’t directly own property, CCC officials approached Cosentino about it a few months ago. The foundation bought the house from The Nora N. Wright Irrevocable Trust for $105,000 before executing the transfer to the county.
