Auburn-area businessman spent winters in Florida while on Assemblyman Finch’s payroll

Thomas Galbato was employed as a part-time community liaison for Assemblyman Gary Finch, but that role didn’t prevent him from spending winters in Florida.

Florida property records, state Assembly documents obtained by The Citizen and conversations with four people familiar with Galbato’s living arrangements reveal he spent several winters in Florida while remaining on Finch’s payroll.

Finch, R-Springport, hired Galbato in January 2002. In previous interviews with The Citizen, Finch said Galbato, 81, was a part-time driver and photographer. Information uncovered about the job has raised questions about the Assembly’s employment policies and what — if any — accountability measures are in place.
