Officials at Danaren Dental Labs say they need to expand their Seneca Falls production facility to remain competitive.
Company President Danielle Bonafiglia-Wirth said the current operation in the BonaDent building on Routes 5&20, the former Walmart, could move to South Carolina or Florida, or the company could move to outsource its products. She said the company wants to remain in Seneca Falls and is seeking financial assistance from the Seneca County Industrial Development Agency to help them do that.
The IDA board of directors met Thursday and voted 7-0 to approve an initial inducement resolution that offers Danaren a payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement and an exemption from paying sales and mortgage recording taxes on the proposed 10,000-square-foot expansion on the north side of BonaDent.
“Our customer base is the big-box dental operations, such as Aspen Dental, and our competition is products made in China and Mexico and other parts of the United States,” Bonafiglia-Wirth said. “We’ve outgrown our manufacturing space, and we need to expand. We’re looking for IDA help for a 7,500-square-foot building expansion so we can retain our existing 29 employees and hire 20 more employees over the next three years.”
She said the IDA could amend its existing PILOT and exemption package with BonaDent or come up with a new one for Danaren. She told the board that construction costs for the addition are estimated at $850,000 and new equipment and other costs would be about $350,000. After some questions from IDA board members, the inducement resolution was introduced and approved.
