When Christine Worth was asked to find an apple pie to submit for a media contest, she immediately knew who to turn to — Lagoner Farms of Williamson.
“When I drive by I think of her apple dumplings and when I bring them home I hide them from my husband,” said Worth, director of tourism at Wayne County Tourism.
Mitzi Lagoner’s Caramel Apple Pecan Pie took top honors last month at a fall-themed media event in New York City. Colleen Knopeck of Break the Ice Media attended the event July 12 at Flatiron Hall in New York City. Knopeck said I Love NY holds seasonal marketplaces to generate interest in New York tourist destinations and all the attendees were asked to bring an apple pie or apple crisp to be judged. Knopeck — who reached out to Worth for an entry, knowing Wayne County is an apple hotbed — said Lagoner’s pie competed against at least six other desserts from different New York state regions.
