U.S. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer visited Cayuga County Monday to urge the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to approve permits for the Owasco Flats restoration project.
The project would restore wetlands at the south end of Owasco Lake. The state allocated $712,500 for the project in 2011, but permits were needed from the federal and state governments before it went out for bid.
The state Department of Environmental Conservation issued permits for the project in July. The Army Corps of Engineers must issue a federal wetlands permit to allow construction to proceed.
