Retired teachers fund Naples project

Naples Elementary School is transforming an underutilized courtyard into an outdoor learning space for the entire school.

Kyle Inda, a special education teacher and PLANT club advisor, recently received a $1,000 check from the New York State Retired Teachers’ Association Hudson-Kramer Memorial Grant fund. The money will be used to install a shade sail over one of the classroom spaces, making the area usable during both sunny days and inclement weather.

Inda, teachers, students, and community members have been working in collaboration to build raised garden beds and a pollinator garden. Seating for an entire class has also been purchased for the space. Funds for the courtyard project have come from fundraisers, donations, volunteer labor, and grants.
