Contenders file to start process for November election

The field of candidates for fall elections in Seneca County started to take shape this week with the filing of nominating petitions.

By Thursday’s deadline to file with the Seneca County Board of Elections, 69 people had filed various party petitions for various elected town and county offices.

Here’s a look at who filed:

COUNTY: Voters will elect a district attorney, a treasurer and two coroners this year.

Republican Party primary elections are likely for district attorney and treasurer.

Submitting Republican petitions for district attorney was incumbent Barry Porsch of Seneca Falls and challenger Joseph Sapio of Fayette.

Porsch also submitted Working Families Party petitions, while Sapio submitted Conservative and Independence Party petitions.

For treasurer, a position that has been reduced to part-time, with limited duties and a reduced salary, Republican petitions were filed by former Fayette Supervisor Edward Barto and former county Personnel Director Frank Sinicropi of Seneca Falls. Barto also filed Conservative and Independence petitions.
