ESCAPE: Inmate located after escaping from Wayne Co. Jail

UPDATE

Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts has reported that the escaped inmate from the Wayne County Jail has been located.

A criminal and internal investigation are ongoing to make additional determinations, according to Virts.

Shawn Meacham, 25, of Geneva was reported missing from the jail on Sunday around 4:30 pm. He allegedly walked out the front door, posing as a weekend inmate.

He had last been seen in Geneva on Sunday, but additional information was not available about where he was taken into custody.

Original Story

On Saturday evening Wayne County Sheriff Barry Virts announced that an inmate escaped from the County Jail by acting as a ‘weekend inmate’.

While explicit details of the escape were not made clear, the Sheriff says that 25-year-old Shawn Meacham, of Geneva pretended to be an inmate who only serves time on the weekends and goes home during the week.

Meacham was serving time for violating the conditions of his probation for third-degree burglary.

The incident took place around 4 pm, according to Virts, who says Meacham will be facing escape charges when found.

He was last seen wearing a blue button up shirt, black shorts and no shoes in the City of Geneva.
