The top 12 pro anglers that made the cut from a field of 198 to fish the third and final day of the Bass Pro Shops Bassmaster Northern Open on Oneida Lake knew they were in a close battle. Only 2 pounds, 11 ounces separated the top group.
When the weigh-in ended, Pennsylvania pro Stanley Sypeck Jr. had moved from seventh place after day two to take the lead and win the tournament. Most anglers weighed in a combination of smallmouth and largemouth bass, but Sypeck brought a 20-pound, 7-ounce bag of largemouth to the scales.
Of the two bass he pulled out of his bag in the final weigh-in, one clocked in at 5 pounds, 5 ounces while the other was 5 pounds, 1 ounce. Sypeck’s winning total over the weekend was 55 pounds, 8 ounces.
