The debate over a use variance allowing a South Main Street church to proceed with an estimated $5.5 million redevelopment effort was a contentious one.
While many neighbors were opposed to converting Trinity Episcopal Church building into an events center, inn and restaurant, a city Zoning Board of Appeals decision granting the necessary variance seemed to end the drama.
Not so fast.
A number of neighbors opposed to the project have filed a lawsuit naming the city, church and project developer Mark McGroarty of McGroarty Investments as defendants. The group is asking that the variance granted last month be denied.
