It’s going to be muggy. While high temperatures will not hit or even near the 90-degree mark – overnights will be in the 70s, with highs in the low-80s.
Multiple rounds of thunderstorms are expected on Friday and Saturday. Both days will feature the threat for severe weather, which will be updated and monitored on FingerLakes1.com. Severe weather will be possible though, according to FLX Weather Meteorologist Drew Montreuil – at any point over the next 36 hours due to how unstable the airmass is over the Finger Lakes.
The biggest threat period for the Finger Lakes on Friday will be between lunch and dinner. The early- to late-afternoon hours will be the most active, with the threat for damaging winds, hail and flash flooding possible.
The storms will be scattered through, according to Montreuil. It means outdoor plans may not be ruined everywhere on Friday. Anyone heading outside should pay close attention to the forecast – especially if those plans will keep them outdoors for an extended period.
While the National Weather Service says there is a 70 percent chance of thunderstorm activity on Friday – those chances increase on Saturday – when more development is expected.
Montreuil’s outlook for Saturday is as follows:
Thunderstorms will be possible at any time Saturday, but the greatest severe threat will be during the afternoon and evening hours. More locations will likely see severe weather on Saturday than on Friday. At this time, it appears possible that a lull in the activity may occur during the late afternoon, but this remains quite uncertain.
Damaging winds will again be the primary threat, but there will be a more substantial hail threat as well. An isolated tornado cannot be ruled out, especially considering the complex nature of the interacting boundaries.
Flash flooding could be a concern as well. The atmosphere will remain primed for torrential downpours. With multiple rounds of storms possible following Friday’s rains, a few localized areas could see substantial amounts of rain during this period.
Thunderstorms will be more likely to organize into line segments that will span a wider area than Friday’s clusters of storms.
