How much the Cayuga County Soil and Water Conservation District is receiving in rent, among other financial and contractual information with a California-based energy company leasing the former county digester — is a mystery after the district denied a Freedom of Information Law appeal.
On April 25, The Auburn Citizen filed a Freedom of Information Law request and the district provided the electricity agreement and lease agreement with Generate Capital, parent company of CH4 Generate Cayuga LLC. Both documents were redacted of rent pricing, initial fees paid for leasing the digester, cost of the electricity generated by the digester, as well as the length of the contract.
