Pisano sentenced to four years in prison for assault that left man in coma

Seneca County Judge Dennis Bender sentenced a local man to prison Monday for putting another man in a coma last year.

John Pisano, 30, was sentenced to four years in prison followed by five years of parole. He pleaded guilty earlier this month to second-degree assault, a class D felony punishable by up to seven years behind bars.

Pisano was arrested in May 2016 by Waterloo police following an investigation into an April 17 incident. He was accused of punching another man in the back of the head on East Elizabeth Street.

Police said the victim was seriously injured and airlifted to Upstate Medical Center in Syracuse. District Attorney Barry Porsch said a confrontation in the bar between two other people spilled outside, and Pisano hit the victim — a young adult male — from behind, knocking him out.
