Auburn auto business seized for nonpayment of taxes

An Auburn automotive business is out of commission after its seizure by the state Department of Taxation and Finance for nonpayment of taxes.

AAMCO Transmissions at 102 Grant Ave. was seized because it has four warrants for unpaid sales tax totaling $65,126, a spokesperson for the department said Tuesday. The spokesperson said the department has reached out to the taxpayer on several occasions to work out the situation, and remains eager to do so.

The business is franchised by Homer Rice, of Martville, who declined comment.

AAMCO, headquartered in Horsham, Pennsylvania, has more than 600 locations in the U.S. The company’s director of consumer support, Mike Pekula, said Tuesday that he understands Rice is working to return customers’ vehicles and also to reopen the store. Pekula said any customers who need assistance can contact him at (800) 292-8500 ext. 221.
