Par at final hole decides Monroe Invitational on Saturday

Derek Bard holed a 12-footer for par at 18 to edge out a quintet of players by a shot and win the 2017 Monroe Invitational Saturday.

Bard made birdie on the par-3 16th to reach 2-under. He parred the last two for a 2-under 67 which was tied for the second best round of the day.

He was inches off the green to the right after his approach shot to 18. The chip shot was disappointingly short, but he found a way to make the putt.

“I left a few short on the back, so I just told myself, it’s uphill. Just get it to the hole. Give it a chance and it snuck in there on the right side,” Bard said.
