The state Department of Transportation has approved a speed limit reduction on a section of Route 414 in front of the del Lago Resort & Casino.
In response to requests from the Town Board for a study, the DOT has agreed to reduce the speed limit from 55 to 40 mph from the Chase Road intersection south to 1,000 feet south of Route 318.
The necessary signs announcing the new speed limit will be installed by DOT crews as soon as their schedule allows.
Region 3 Director David Smith said the decision was based on existing roadside development, test drives, accident screening and radar speed study.
He said the DOT determined that reducing the 55 mph speed limit on Route 318 approaching the intersection with Route 414 from the east and west “would not be appropriate at this time.’’
