St. Baldrick’s children honored at Auburn City Council meeting, renewable energy discussed

Mayor Michael Quill proclaimed June 11, 2017, as St. Baldrick’s Foundation Day in anticipation of the childhood cancer foundation’s sixth annual head shaving event this coming Sunday.

Four children — Alayah Green, 3, Kasey Jordan, 7, Caden Schmitt, 9, and Zacharya Pheasant, 12 — were honored during Thursday night’s city council meeting. Zacharya was not able to attend the ceremony due to complications with his treatment.

Auburn firefighter Brian Bennink, who coordinates the event, expressed his gratitude to the community for their support and donations.

“The event is bittersweet,” Bennink said. “We do have some of our honored families discuss some of the difficulties they face as their child battles cancer. There are some very sad moments, but there are also some joyful moments.”
