State Police ID woman found dead on Cayuga Co. trail

State Police say the dead body discovered in Cato on Thursday is an isolated incident.

They say the public is not at risk, as the investigation into this incident continues.

The latest from State Police indicates that 41-year-old Ginger Kurtz was found, unresponsive, mostly-submerged in water off of a Cayuga County trail.

Police did note that the individual was last seen Wednesday night around 8 pm.

The body would be discovered roughly 12 hours later.

Several police cars could be seen on the Cayuga County Trail next to the Town of Ira municipal building, according to witnesses in the area on Thursday.

District Attorney Jon Budelmann was also on-site.

Officials have said that the incident is being treated as ‘suspicious’ until an outright cause of death can be determined.
