Seneca Falls, the Birthplace of the Women’s Rights Movement, will be prominently featured in a new state campaign promoting tourism at historic equal rights attractions in the state.
Two sites in Waterloo also will be highlighted.
The campaign is being introduced in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of women’s suffrage in New York state, three years before the 19th Amendment to the Constitution was passed in 1920.
The women’s rights movement began at a tea party at the home of Thomas and Mary Ann M’Clintock in Waterloo on July 13, 1848.
Jane Hunt, Lucretia Mott, Martha Wright, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Mary Ann M’Clintock began planning the first women’s rights convention, which occurred July 19-20, 1848 at the Wesleyan Chapel on Fall Street in Seneca Falls.
