Canandaigua City Manager in hot water over handling of deputy’s funeral

The Friday funeral of deputy Joshua Shaver triggered a debate in the Canandaigua community.

City council member Matt Martin says he wants answers for events that happened 24 hours before the Shaver funeral.

He says city manager Ted Andrzejewski denied a request for the Canandaigua ladder truck to hang a flag over the motorcade, saying Shaver did not die in the line of duty, and had overtime concerns.

“As soon as I heard that response, I was disgusted,” Martin said. “Fortunately we had a council meeting last night and we were able to discuss this matter and change that direction. We directed the city manager to contact the fire chief and make sure we were there on site early.”

The truck was present for the funeral.
