Bokelman pulls out of Wayne County district attorney race

Acting Wayne County District Attorney Chris Bokelman has pulled out of a special election to decide the county’s top prosecutor.

In an email to the Times Tuesday, Bokelman said he sent the following announcement last Friday to his supporters.

“I am writing to let you know that I am ending my campaign for the position of Wayne County District Attorney in this November’s election,” he said. “This very difficult decision has been made after a careful review and after discussing the matter with my family and supporters. I have and do greatly appreciate the opportunity to serve the community as both an assistant district attorney and as the acting district attorney. Thank you to everyone who gave me encouragement and support.”
